OmniVista Terra 10.6.1 Documentation

Deployment Prerequisites

Please read the the following prerequisites and deployment information prior to installing OmniVista Terra:

Ensure that the following are in place before you begin:

  • Sufficient hardware resources for the selected deployment option (see Deployment Sizing Options below).

  • The server storage uses SSD disks.

  • The server CPU supports AVX/AVX2 instructions.

  • An available storage target that meets the required performance profile (SSD or NVMe-backed storage).

  • Network access so the VM can communicate on the assigned subnet and the browser can reach WebAdmin on port 3000.

Deployment Sizing Options

The information below lists the hypervisor deployment sizing configurations for the OmniVista Terra VM. Before installation, ensure the server has sufficient hardware for your deployment. Requirements vary based on the number of nodes you plan to deploy.

Managed Devices

Deployment Size

Virtual Machine Configuration

Up to 250

1 VM

8 vCPUs, 32 GB RAM, 200 GB system disk,
500 GB data disk

Up to 400

1 VM

16 vCPUs, 32 GB RAM, 200 GB system disk,
500 GB data disk

Up to 2,000

3 VMs

Per VM: 8 vCPUs, 32 GB RAM, 200 GB system disk,
3 TB data disk

Up to 5,000

3 VMs

Per VM: 16 vCPUs, 32 GB RAM, 200 GB system disk,
3 TB data disk

Up to 8,000

6 VMs

Per VM: 8 vCPUs, 32 GB RAM, 200 GB system disk,
3 TB data disk

Infrastructure Requirements for CPU and Storage

Every node, small or large, needs host resources that are fast enough--not just big enough. The following requirement apply to every VM on every supported hypervisor.

CPU Performance

Storage Performance

3.2 - 4.7 GHz
Processor Clock Speed

Enterprise-Class SSID / NVMe with power-loss protection (PLP).

AVX / AVX2
Instruction-Set Support

≥ 50 MB/s
Disk throughput

< 10 ms
etcd fsync at rest

< 10 ms
etcd fsync under load

Why it matters: etcd, the datastore behind leader election, confirms every change only once it is on disk. Power-loss protection lets a drive confirm those writes fast; slow storage delays leader heartbeats and can trigger re-elections.

Deployment and Installation Overview

Below is an overview of the steps required to deploy and configure OmniVista Terra.

  1. Deploy OmniVista Terra on a supported virtual machine.

    1. VMware ESXi

    2. Microsoft Hyper-V

    3. Proxmox

  2. Configure OmniVista Terra using the OmniVista Admin Center.

  3. Configure Windows DNS settings.

  4. Obtain and import licenses for your OmniVista Terra organization.

  5. Begin onboarding devices.
